The Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906, and the massive City Hall graft scandals, brought about a complete revamping of the San Francisco Police Department. This concise history appeared in the 1982 "San Francisco Police Department Yearbook," self-published by the San Francisco Police Officers' Association. Text was written by Wes Van Winkle, based upon Gladys Hansen's book "Behind the Silver Star: An Account of the San Francisco Police Department."
