Judge Ward McAllister was the son of Hall McAllister for whom the San Francisco street was named. Ads of this type were relatively common after the earthquake and fire, and “missing persons” columns filled the want-ad sections of San Francisco newspapers.

Judge McAllister was later found.

JUDGE WARD MCALLISTER LOST

The undersigned will pay $100 gold reward for information leading to the recovery of Judge Ward McAllister (a paralytic), who was removed from McNutt Hospital to Presidio Hospital and from there either to hospitals of the city, Vallejo, Mare Island, Napa, Susuin, etc., but has now disappeared. Description - Age 50, height 5:8, weight 140; brown beard, streaked with gray; brown hair, gray on right side of head; right arm wholly paralyzed; right leg partially; cannot articulate; can see, hear and understand. Any reliable detective wishing to undertake the case please call upon the undersigned. Country papers, especially Marin, Solano and Contra Costa papers please copy.
