Had personal conference with Mayor to-day. He informed me that he has assured Pacific Wrecking Company that the same police protection will be afforded them as others. He further states that he informed them he could not countenance importation or use of Coolie labor in San Francisco nor would he favor competition of cheap foreign labor against American white labor. He promises written answer speedily. Outside sources confirm morning paper that Pacific Trades Council has forbidden its members to work on buildings constructed on sites cleared or prepared by Asiatic labor. If you have any wishes will endeavor to carry them out."
